The piano is a truly incredible instrument. The versatility and application alone make it an excellent choice but we also find it to be the ideal starting instrument. Piano keys provide simplicity when learning pitch, relative location of notes to others, and learning to read music. Piano music is written in both Treble and Bass clef, which are the two most commonly use clefs when notating music for different instruments. So if you don't play an instrument already and are not familiar with reading music, we recommend the piano!
Pianos come in many different shapes and sizes, so if you're worried about the cost, don't worry, you don't need to purchase a grand piano like the one shown in the image. For beginners-intermediate learners, an electric keyboard will work just fine. You'll just want to make sure it includes a music stand and floor pedal - all the fancy buttons and settings are not necessary. If you want a piano, there are piano stores but we often come across many pianos being sold for very reasonable prices on social media. Just make sure that you have an interior wall available to place your piano on and be sure to get it professionally tuned regularly.
The beautiful simplicity of the piano means that once you have a piano or keyboard available, you can start learning right away. We recommend starting children around age six, when they have a solid grasp on the alphabet and counting. We have introductory music groups for toddlers coming soon. We especially encourage adults to take lessons because you're never too old to learn, or sometimes relearn a wonderful skill like the piano.
